Each winter we seem to get a period of weather that is perfect for the formation of hoar frost. This year conditions have been perfect!! There has been no wind, the temperature has been around 10F, and we've had higher humidity than normal... so it's been foggy... and amazing things have been happening to most objects outside! It's a winter wonderland...
A few days into it... a light coating on the birch branches.
Spruce needles.
Backyard trellis with frosty hops.
Pine looking like it's been spray painted!
Every view is photo-worthy.
Nice contrast in colour...
Front of our house... nice composition between spruce in front and birch behind.
The crabapples we didn't pick for making jelly...
...looking very cool as frosted bird treats...

Nice to see your post! We have some variation of hoar frost happening in Fairbanks right now. We haven't had any snow in quite some time, and there is this amazing top layer of enormous crystals on the old snow. You can practically hear the "tinkle tinkle tinkle" when you brush your mitten across it. Very pretty and sparkly. :)
